Mac McDermott is a Lighting Designer based out of Southern California. Originally raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He moved to California to pursue his MFA from the University of California, Irvine, after receiving his Bachelor of Arts from Xavier University. Mac has gotten to work across a variety of styles, but specializes in realism and dance lighting. One of his favorite projects "The Green Knight" allowed him to explore a medieval period piece intertwined with magic and mysticism. He has had the pleasure of working with renowned theaters such as Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Okoboji Summer Theatre, South Coast Repertory, and Pasadena Playhouse.
Outside of the theater, Mac is an avid photographer, cataloging his travels across the country. He enjoys working the regional circuit because of his love for stories and the communities that tell them. Mac is also a frequent baker with a notorious sweet tooth. He often bakes cookies or other treats for the cast and crew for the first night of tech.
